It's Like a Microwave in This Bitch!

Wooooo Virgin Fest!!! Oh boy do I have to go to more festivals next year. Lounging around in the sun (not a guarantee, I know) listening to music? Yes please and thank you. Because I had already seen most of the bands that I really liked already and been pretty well front and off center for most of them, this was a pretty chill weekend. We were fairly close to the stage the first day and only stood up for Pearl Jam, and then we sat further up the hill the second day, lying in the sun in between sets (and in some cases, during, yawn, wintersleep). Pearl Jam was pretty much the only draw the first day, and were freaking awesome, playing a 2 hour + set, with 2 encores. It was wicked. I also quite liked Mother Mother (though they looked liked knobs) and really liked Thunderheist (kind of electropop? this chick who was hilarious singing with a dj basically, oh and they recently added a drummer). K-os was fun too, though frankly I didn’t even remember he performed until I was trying to think of who else was there.

Second day we made it probably halfway through Social Code, maybe a bit earlier, I don’t think they played very long. We caught the Darkness and White Stripes covers (which kind of outraged this Australian chick who was with us, I thought that was funny), a few new songs (which were really good), and then a couple older songs at the end. I was totally going to meet up with Brandon (friendly neighbourhood Social Code fan) and Michelle(Prince George-ian Social Code fan) there, but then he went to Seattle and didn’t have internet, and I had to work 13 hour days and didn’t get a chance to go on the internet, so no plan was made. Haha I’ve lived in the same city as him for almost a year now and we still haven’t met. Then there was some band from England (White Lies) who were derivative of Joy Division and The Killers and kinda boring I thought (the paper said The Fratellis were at last year’s vfest. I got very angry when I read that. Matthew Good, New Pornographers, Feist, Flaming Lips, Fratellis??? This year’s line-up was so thrown together), Tokyo Police Club was enjoyable, but I think may be better suited to clubs than Olympic ski hills, all the fun and energy that I got when I saw them last year didn’t quite make it up to us. Metric was cool, not much more to say about them. I liked them a few years ago, not really into them anymore, but they were enjoyable, Emily Haines kind of bugs me though, I don’t know what it is, I really like her singing but she just bugs me. Billy Talent was awesome. I love them so much. They said they’d be back soon on a headlining tour so I’m super pumped for that. Emily already said she’d go with me and I’m definitely going to go for floor (if they do that). I haven’t gotten all sweaty and pummelled in a crowd for a looong time. I miss it.

I totally meant to bring my camera the second day but forgot. Lame. These photos courtesy of Amy darling.
