Just Call Me Suzy Homemaker!

For dinner: meatloaf and mashed potatoes! It should be ready in a minute...I'm only slightly worried about how it will turn out. Only because I didn't exactly use a recipe...I just kind of threw a bunch of generally recognized meatloaf ingredients into a bowl and smooshed it all together. It smells good though so that's a positive sign.

The game last night was good, kinda boring at first but then it got better in the second and third periods. We had a bit of a hard time finding our seats though...we had to ask 4 people for help because they were in some weird section way at the top, where apparently the seats are first come first serve, so by the time we figured this out, the most convenient seats to get to were waaaaaaaay at the back. Last row where we were, though there were farther seats a little ways down. Twas fun though. During the first intermission however, there was a horrifying display involving a man attached to four dummies all dressed like members of the village people and he skated around and danced to a medley of their songs. I was scared. Google "the amazing christopher" I'm pretty sure you can find a video. Amy took one, and some pictures, I'm sure you'll be seeing those soon.

Update: yummy meatloaf...a little too moist? lean ground beef next time, rendered a LOT of fat during cooking which I will now drain off. Tastes good though!

I Just Inhaled My Pop.

Hmmm... I just got a call from my boss that was a little vague, but he said that we have someone new starting tuesday, or wednesday at the latest, and I'm getting keys tomorrow and starting a bit earlier, and we're going to talk about my salary. Sounds good?

Friday was lame, I was pretty much done with Ken, this week was his last chance, and so friday morning when I had to spend a half hour in the morning doing his job for him, I was just so pissed. Amyna pretty much spent the rest of the day trying to appease me. After spending almost the entire week at the shop, working with him, and me, she finally gets it. Apparently his girlfriend of 3 years dumped him this week too, I feel bad for him, and like I've said, he's a nice guy, and if he had acted like he was depressed because of being dumped, and that's why he wasn't doing any work, then I might be a little easier on him, but it was just the same old Ken, and he'd had warnings and talking tos all week long, even if he'd put in a tiny bit more effort, that probably would have been enough.

Blah, we'll find out what's going on tomorrow I suppose. This does mean that I'll be even more tired and lame now with half an hour less sleep...boo.

The Rockefeller center tree lighting is Wednesday! Hooray! I have to dig up last years Christmas Spectacular and watch my beloved Rockettes...

Defrosting Meat In The Microwave Makes Me Want To Strangle Myself

Hello! Oh look, a new background. I call it, "hey look there's my fridge."

A good day? Meh, a busy one for sure. We had 4 catering orders for this morning, one was for 100 people. That one was booked yesterday afternoon, so we all stayed late to prep for it. I stayed til just before 5, meaning I worked for 10 hours, and then came in early this morning to get all the coffee ready for it. I'm a wee bit tired. Today was the first day in about a week that I had coffee at work. I needed it badly. Our new baker started today and she's great, intelligent, competent, speaks english, what more can you ask for? That's quite the relief to all of us.

No new Office tonight, how saddening. Is Ugly Betty new? I'm finally caught up on that, it is actually getting better in the plotlines area.

Back to dinner.

Squeaky Clean!

Am currently trying to decide whether to book flights now, or wait another day or two to see if I can get a better deal...The flight I'm looking at to Vic is a seat sale (and two whole days earlier than expected), but not the one back. I could just do one now and then wait on the other one, but I'd kinda rather just get it all done...

Update: Just booked the to Victoria flight, will wait on the other. I arrive Wednesday the 17th at night.

Is Basically How I Feel.

I was a half hour late for work this morning because I had terrible stomach pain and was waiting to see whether I would be violently ill in an excessive puking kind of way or not. Thankfully not. Today would have been the worst day ever to call in sick too because neither of the owners were coming in and there was a big lunchtime catering order. So I went, and stood behind the counter for the first couple of hours leaning against the counter sipping water, trying not to fall over. I feel better now in the stomach, and less dizzy, but headachey still (I've basically had a headache since Friday) and generally gross.

On the bright side (as I told Alyssa several times), five minutes before I left work, my cutey came in. AND he said he'd see me tomorrow! Hahahaha I'm so deluded.
I went into the back right after and Emma took one look at my face and said "the guy with the glasses came in didn't he." Whatever keeps me going, I figure!

I was all excited because I thought I finally figured out how to send pictures with my phone...but Alyssa never got any picture. Sigh. Oh well, not something I ever really cared that much about doing.

Semi-Frozen Coke Is A Bizarre Thing.

Oh hooray for lazy saturdays. I have spent most of today watching Gavin & Stacey and Two Pints of Lager & A Packet of Crisps on Youtube. Neither are really amazing, though Two Pints is funnier than I expected. Apparently NBC wants to make an American version of Gavin & Stacey. I think they try that every week don't they? The Office went well, is Kath and Kim doing well? I think not too bad, IT Crowd never even aired... It's funny how people get riled up about it though. Emma at work went on a rant about Kath and Kim one day, and there are so many people who refuse to watch the US Office because the British one must obviously be better. People are silly. I like television. There are only a couple more episodes of NMtB left in this series...I'm afraid they won't air the Russell Brand one...that would be so very sad.

My webcam is doing that locked thing...it's bugging me. I'll find some picture from off the internet instead....

Hurrah!

Wow, A Gun!

Oh hey. Sorry about the past couple of days. Most of the time that I was home, I was sleeping. Wednesday, came home and tried to sleep, in actually just lay in bed for 4 hours feeling headachey and ill, and then fell asleep at about the same time as usual. Thursday I was going to update, I swear, but then I wasn't sure what to say and just never got around to it. Yesterday I came home and left voicemails and emails with our landlord letting him know that if he doesn't make an appointment with the city to get our water meter replaced by wednesday, then they will shut off the water to the house (he emailed me back this morning saying that he left a message with the woman downstairs (meter is in the basement) earlier in the week, and so he will call her again and then call the city, thankfully). Then I had a killer headache and went to sleep until about an hour ago.

It's been a looong, tiring week. Lots of overtime. Thursday I worked from 6:15 to 4:15. Yesterday I had no coffee at all (mostly due to the fact that I overslept a bit in the morning and didn't have time to make any, and am trying to drink water at work more than coffee so I feel a bit better). Emma is moving to Banff and next week is her last, so we have to find her replacement (a good one hopefully) and get her somewhat trained very soon. They are also trying to hire two more people for upfront but that is related to some drama that I don't really want to get into until some things have been resolved more. It may be quite beneficial for me in the long run, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much, because I don't necessarily trust everything that my boss tells me. Also he and Amyna have been crazy busy these past couple of weeks preparing for the Aga Khan (Muslim spiritual leader, kind of like the pope, huge deal) to visit their mosque next week so they're going mental and have been away from the shop a lot, causing myself and Emma to go mental as well. Yesterday afternoon was nice though, it was just me there for most of it, and we had done a pretty thorough cleaning job the day before so there wasn't tons to do that was super important. My cute guy whom I love and want to marry and have babies with came in and I gave him free coffee and we chatted for a bit. Then the Australian cute guy came in and we chatted some more. It was nice.

Oh yes, then I went to visit Dave the wealthy oil tycoon in the hospital before I came home. He seems to have caught some sort of nosocomial infection and will have to stay there for a while still...very unfortunate...

Buzzcocks was very funny, IT crowd wasn't the best, but had it's moments, and I'm happy it's back.

Pardonnez Quoi?

Two things before I play a bit of sudoku and then go to sleep.

1!!! Thanks for my good morning text messages, you guys are sweethearts. I feel the love.

2!!! What in the heck is with the buttloads of people from mostly England googling qu'est-ce que sup? (or some other horrific spelling) and ending up on my blog? Did that episode just air in the UK or something? It's funny that when it aired here and I made that post, I got a couple of people here and there googling it and coming up with this, but nowhere near as many as this past week. Funny. Haha.

Now Is Still Later...

I went in to work for a bit after I posted so pretend this is yesterday...

Oh wow golly gee whiz! SNOW:

Even A Five Year Old Knows How To Carry A Pizza Box.

What is wrong with Panago in Calgary??? The delivery guy just sat in the car in the middle of the road for about 5 minutes unable to find the house... AND THEN! the pizza looked like this:

and it was cold again.

Weekend: End Of The Week

Some things that I like:

-old buildings
-brick buildings
-old, brick buildings
-Christmas
-when people tell me I look like my mom
-getting all sweaty and squished between a crowd of people at a concert
-cheese (the delicious dairy product AND the kitschy campy corniness)
-white gloves (though so impractical)
-decks of cards
-tins of mints

(sidenote: Oh man I just found the most awesome Christmas present for someone but I do not think you can buy it yet...or I don't know where from...and neither does anyone else...shoot.)

Today was kind of lame. New guy called in sick (for the second time in 2 weeks), was VERY busy for quite a while in the morning before Ken arrived, when Ken comes he says "How long has Gerry been sitting there(table across from the counter)?" We say "what? who?" "Gerry, he's from head office." (eyes widen) "Oh crap."

Apparently head office only comes to check on us nowadays when Emma and I are the ones there and we get mad rushes of people and lineups down the hall. He was really weird and didn't say anything to us, just sat there staring at us for a long time, walked around a bit, took pictures of the sandwiches (that worried us), and then handed Ken his card and said "Have Amyna give me a call," before leaving. He did call us back later though and told Emma that her and I were very charming and polite and composed with the customers and handled the rush very well considering we really needed another person out there with us. Head office is always really nice and complimentary to us, I think they chew out the owners a bit though, which I am in favour of, because neither Emma nor I really have the guts to do it. They're really nice people, don't get me wrong, but they seem to be under the delusion that everything is running smoothly, and/or they just don't want to deal with the problems.

My dad and brothers moved (almost) all of the stuff out of our house into the condo today, they're staying at home one last night tonight, and then that's it. Goodbye house. Going home in December will be sooo weird.

Miss You.

Weird day. Confusing. A day of rememberance of a different sort for me, and I just kind of wavered between being all cheerful because I actually did have a pretty good day, and I listened to Christmas music for 8 hours at work, and just being sad, and almost in tears when my dad sent me an overly sentimental text message. Stupid.

Caaaaaaan't Sleep.

Too much sleep last night.

Not tired.

I Would Never Bring A Child Into This World Because Of Iraq

*crossing fingers that this actually works
*edit: it did not work, there's something wrong with the code...and since I do not understand technologies at all, I have no idea what that something is...
here is the link.

Oh crap I love Mindy Kaling. She's done a short for Strike tv (made during the writer's strike, and donates some of their proceeds to the Actor's fund, helping crew members affected by the strike), presumably there will be more, as it's entitled "pilot."

And May I Add: Muah Ha Ha.

I found the best blog ever today. This chick just goes through babysitter's club books and comments on their wardrobe choices. It's genius!

Amy and I have had many conversations about the fact that, reading the bsc books so much as a child, we were constantly paranoid that we might have diabetes.

Who doesn't love a day off? (shut up all of you who just had 2 days off, I will be eternally bitter towards the fall reading break) What did I do with my free time? Well, I didn't wake up at 5am and go to work and that's really all that matters. Amyna decided she didn't want to decorate the shop so I didn't get to do that, but she said I could if I wanted, so I'm hoping within the next couple of days to get my hands on some cheap garlands and snazz the place up a bit. I am putting together some music for tomorrow though, if anyone has any suggestions for Christmas music that's not toooo loud or obnoxious sounding so I can get a lot of variety and not drive my coworkers nuts over the next month and a half, that would be cool, I'm sure I have at least a half dozen cds that I can use for now, Chris Isaak, Sufjan Stevens, some of Relient K, Beach Boys, Josh Groban (kudos to Tammy for that), various popstars...

Hahaha I just went to Relient K's website to see if they had any news on their Christmas album because I had heard they were going to add to it and release it yet again this year. (they're doing their xmas tour with Toby Mac this year, that is cool, not that they're going anywhere near me or you.) I didn't find that out, but I did find that black hoodie with the rose on it that I wanted to buy a couple of years ago, for only 10$! (17$ with shipping) Yeah I bought it.

Oh please no Il Divo Christmas. Amyna loves Il Divo. Ugh.

Amy Got A Present For Us.

That's right! The Office DVD board game!
(the larger box cover picture will not load....sad...)
We were both miraculously up early enough for McDonalds breakfast, so we got some McMuffins and settled up in the living room for some office goodness!

Hahaha impromptu photo shoot while Amy's in the shower.

I was Kelly and Amy was Creed. Obviously Amy won, but there will be a rematch! Oh yes!

After that we went to Walmart for some money spending. I got shoes for winter that are something in between my green mesh sneakers and my huge kickass snow boots. There's a broad field. They're more than shoes, but not boots, brown suede and they have furry insides. They're fairly ugly but they were 19$ and will be pretty much hidden by my pantlegs so suck it.

Then we went grocery shopping and had our delicious feast of bacon and garlic cheese breadsticks. Followed by dinner of our choosing (stirfry for Amy, perogies for me, cooked in the bacon grease, followed by some blue cheese and crackers...I'm gross).

One day of work followed by a day of Rememberance and Christmas decorating!

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Oh Hey.

Sorry sorry for the lack of everything in the past few days. I's been tired. I got an hour or two less sleep every night this week (mostly my own doing) and have been a little zombie-esque as a result. Very happy for no work Tuesday this week happy happy. I will probably go in at some point in the day however, TO DECORATE THE STORE FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! I love Christmas. We got gingerbread syrup (and I heard there may be eggnog too), a new gingerbread loaf, chocolate bundt cake, these mexican cookies (they're covered in icing sugar, I totally recognized them when I saw them as cookies I have seen at Christmas before...I'll try to describe them better later), and gingerbread families (packaged mom, dad, and child), some other things too I think. Plus I get to bring in lots of rad Christmas music to play. Very excited. Of course we're not allowed to call it Christmas, but I think it's going to be pretty obvious... Yay. I'll try to remember to bring my camera for decorating day.

Ummm...things of note over the past couple of days...Yeah it snowed wdnesday as you know, it wasn't too much though, covered the lawns and stuff, but not the roads or most sidewalks. It was pretty snow, actually a lot of it is still out side on the ground, it hasn't snowed since, but there's still some out there, it's been pretty cold.
Amy got her snow tires that evening, so good timing there. We went after work and wandered down the street to Timmies while we waited, then got bored and watched spongebob at mazda, whilst trying to avoid the attention of a girl who was there buying a car, who we believed to be the sister of a girl we were having dinner with in a matter of hours (friends of Amy's in town, well one of them was). Turns out it was her too. Dinner was at this place that serves all market fresh food or something, and you get a card and go to stations to order your food, then they swipe your card and you sit down and they serve it to you, then you just bring your card up at the end to pay. Sounds a little dubious, but it worked and the food was really really good. Nice food, not cafeteria style-ish at all like the concept might sound. Yum. Kinda awkward dinner though.

Thursday/Friday...ummm...I dunno, work, office. Emma and I have started taking breaks together around lunchtime, which is nice cause we don't have to sit there and read or whatever, plus we miss a chunk of lunchtime and so everyone else has to run around working hard for a change. Ahahaha I get bitter sometimes. Emma may be moving to Banff though, like very soon, I think she'll know for sure and possibly give her notice this week. Ugh, can't fault her for moving away, but she's awesome and I don't want them to have to hire someone else. Oh well, we'll see I guess.

Friday was pretty much a write-off in the afternoon, everyone else was gone so we just did some half-hearted tidying, then spent about 20 minutes chatting with this Australian dude who comes in sometimes, then we had a cookie, then Ken came back and we left and looked at some stores in TD square.

Yup. That's about it.

I miss Russell and Matt. He probably would have been back on the show last week too since Russ went back to LA. Oh the ironing. Buzzcocks was hilarious though, obviously filmed after this whole incident occured. I hope they show the episode with him captaining sometime in the not toooo distant future.

To those whose emails and texts etc I have not responded to, just give me a minute and I'll get to them, if I still don't then remind me later...

Breaking News!

Hotmail just changed their layout!

Crazy days.

Refresh...Refresh...

Looks like America will have it's first black president! Obama just got Ohio and it is not looking good for McCain.

I have to go make some food and I feel anxious about leaving my computer...

You See?

Hmmmm.....

The Big Day.

The votes are coming in! Most of what I've seen puts McCain ever so slightly ahead of Obama but obvs it too early to tell anything.

Hmmmm...

Butterscotch!

I was unable to load this pic in the last post.

I am very much liking my hair today. I don't know if you can really tell that it's any different...but it is....and I like it.

So the girl we hired on Friday never showed up this morning. Amyna called her and she said she decided she didn't want the job anymore.

.....thanks for letting us know?????

I don't understand some people.

We hired someone else in the afternoon to start tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed eh?

In other news, Emma and I put hot sauce in our manager's coffee. He didn't really notice, thought the coffee was gross anyways, and threw it out after one sip. We were very disappointed.

Until That Help Arrives

I'll be waiting nice and warm in my pretty new coat!

I made myself a fried egg in a cheese bun for breakfast and burst the yolk and spread it around the bun before eating so that it didn't just pop when I bit into it and ooze yolk out the side like always. I was rather pleased with myself until about halfway through when I noticed I had yolk all over my hand, on my robe and on my sheets. Oops. Not such an effective solution afterall.

Oh balls, now I've just spilt my coffee on my blanket...so now I have to wash all my bedding when I get home...

And I Wish I Was Michael J. Fox

I'd visit the past, then come back to the future!

Three guesses as to what I'm watching...and eating (subway, in case you couldn't tell).

Crap I love this movie.

Last night was...interesting. Amy, and one of her coworkers and I pretty much just stood/sat in a corner for a couple of hours talking amongst ourselves. Then we went to look for ghosts again, then went home. Partay!

Ready To Party?

I need to start taking good pictures of myself with a real camera. I will later when I show you my 2 new coats that I bought today at Ricki's 30% off coats sale! I'm so bad. I totally rationalized it too by not spending $100 at Old Navy on more shirts and cardigans that I don't really need. The way I see it, I wear the same thing every day, and I have to walk and wait for buses in the cold every day, so really, spending that money on pretty coats is really the closest thing to fashion that I get, and it's functional for keeping me warm.

...Tammy said Alyssa and I should join a support group.

Ha Ha, Still No Snow.

Happy weekend/November. I believe Amy and I will be making our way over to Chinook (mall) today (we have been good for so long) to check out an Old Navy sale, 30% off winter coats at Ricki's, etc. I haven't had Starbucks in about two weeks either so I'm pumped about that, which is rather ridiculous.

(Hey, people who know people in the know, when do the Christmas drinks start? must be about a week now eh?)

Tonight I am going to a goodbye party with Amy for Emily (Amy's friend for years, went to the Spice Girls concert, our Thursday night Office buddy) who is moving to Australia. I'm not sure how long we will last there but we'll see.

Stayed in last night til 10 ish watching Ginger Snaps 2 (sooooo much worse than the first one) and giving out candy to childrens (who, by the way, apparently will either knock on your door and stand there silently holding out their bags, or will just stand outside your door and yell TRICK OR TREAT at the top of their lungs...very curious...I prefer the latter). Amy carved a couple of rad Office pumpkins (pic won't load, see fb). I was more interested in roasting the seeds (mmmm....). We then drove around downtown checking out costumes (best ones...crayons, a man surrounded by a shower curtain...ummm...that's all I can remember at this point), and did a bit of ghost hunting (no luck) and hooker spotting (ew).

Shower time!
